Surface Hardener and Corrosion Inhibitor – Aqueous Solution

Description

AD-TEK H is a chemically blended aqueous solution, free of chlorides, especially formulated as a Penetrative Corrosion Inhibitor that significantly hardens the surface and increases the durability of concrete.

Laboratory and field testing indicates that treatment with AD-TEK H will provide protection for more than 10 years.

Uses

  1. As a performance and durability enhancer of existing concrete structures, AD-TEK H:
    • Densifies and hardens the surface layer
    • Stops surface dusting
    • Increases impermeability, chemical resistance and durability
    • Restores the protective properties of the concrete against reinforcement corrosion
  2. On new hardening concrete, AD-TEK H:
    • Reduces water loss by about 20%
    • Promotes efficient cement hydration
    • Stops surface dusting
    • Reduces surface cracking
    • Increases surface hardness, impermeability and durability
    • Enhances concrete protective properties against steel reinforcement corrosion
  3. As a primer for most cementitious renders and polymeric coatings, AD-TEK H:
    • Increases the adhesive bond strength of the renders and polymeric coatings
  4. As a treatment of brickwork joints, AD-TEK H:
    • Works as a hardener and durability enhancer of brickwork joints

Areas of Use

  • Restoration of degraded concrete structures (approved for use on Heritage sites)
  • Dust proofing of factory floors
  • Surface hardening and abrasion resistance of concrete surfaces i.e. floors, road works, bridge decks etc.
  • Reinstatement of poorly finished concrete
  • Primer for cementitious render
  • Water retention agent for new hardening concrete

Surface Preparation

AD-TEK H must be applied to a clean surface free of contaminants. Pressure washing is recommended as minimum preparation.

Application

AD-TEK H is normally applied as a single coat, usually in the range of 3 – 5 square metres per litre. But if double coating is deemed necessary for badly degraded concrete, the second coat can be applied after 2 to 4 hours, when the first coat is fully impregnated into the concrete.

Curing time

Not applicable. Treated concrete can be put into service as soon as the surface is dry.

Impact Abrasion Resistance according to AS/NZS 4456.9-2003 Abrasion resistance is increased
Chloride Ion Diffusion according to NT Build 443 1995 – 11 Reduced approximately two times
Reinforcement Corrosion Inhibition according to Polarisation Curves Method Steel reinforcement is passivated and hence corrosion is inhibited
Water Absorption according to Taywood Engineering Test Absorption is decreased by approximately 25%
Water Retention for new hardening concrete according to AS 3799 – 1998 Water loss is reduced by approximately 20%
Slip Resistance according to AS/NZS 4586 – 2004 Unchanged by treatment

Packaging, Shelf Life and Storage

AD-TEK H is available in 20 and 1000 litre containers and in bulk on request.

AD-TEK H has a shelf life of 12 months if kept. It should be stirred well before use.
