Viscosity Modifying Admixture – Aqueous Solution
Description
AD-TEK VMA is a composite viscosity modifying admixture developed for producing concrete with enhanced viscosity and controlled rheological properties.
AD-TEK VMA significantly increases concrete resistance to segregation and facilitates its placement and consolidation.
AD-TEK VMA stabilises the air void system in freshly mixed and placed concrete and increases the overall concrete stability.
AD-TEK VMA exceeds all requirements of AS 1478.1 – 2000 for Type SN admixtures.
Uses
- Pumped concrete
- Super workable concrete
- Self-compacting concrete
- Lean concrete mixtures
- Concrete with “gap-graded” aggregates
- Concrete with manufactured sand
- Low fines content concrete
- Shotcrete
Advantages
- Enhances pumping, workability and finishing
- Provides concrete stability during transport and placement
- Ease of placement
- Reduced tendency to segregation
- Faster concrete compaction
- Enhances surface appearance
- Reduces compaction defects
- Does not affect the strength of concrete
Technical Data (typical)
Property | Value |
---|---|
Appearance | Aqueous polymer solution |
Colour | Light brown |
Density at 20ºC | 1.0 kg/litre |
pH value | 6.0 – 8.0 |
Chloride content | None added |
TEA content | None |
Air entrainment | May slightly increase air content at high dose rate |
Dosage
The recommended dose rate is between 100 – 1000 ml per 100 kg of cementitious content depending on specific mix design and requirements.
A dosage of 100-500 ml/100 kg is recommended for typical concrete mixtures to improve pumping and finishing procedures.
A dosage of up to 1000 ml/100 kg is recommended to provide stability in super workable self-compacting concrete mixtures.
Preliminary laboratory or field trials should be conducted to determine the required dosage rates.
Application
AD-TEK VMA is typically added into concrete with the initial mix water or may be added on-site into the concrete mixer. When added on-site, the truck mixer shall rotate its drum for a minimum of 5 minutes to achieve a uniform mix.
Compatibility
AD-TEK VMA is compatible with other AD-TEK admixtures used in the production of quality concrete.
Packaging
AD-TEK VMA is available in 20-litre containers, 1000-litre cubes and in bulk.
Health and Safety
AD-TEK VMA contains no hazardous substances requiring labelling. For further information refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet.
